Cub Activity Badges

Cub Activity Badges let young people explore their interests, learn new skills, and be recognised for giving things a go. There are over 50 activity badges, covering everything from sports and outdoor skills to creativity, community involvement and practical life skills.

They are round badges, worn on the left-hand sleeve, and Cubs can choose which interest areas they want to work on. The wide range ensures there is something for every Cub, helping them grow in confidence and discover what they enjoy.

What Activity Badges Cover

Activity badges let Cubs explore topics such as:

  • Outdoor and adventure (Backwoods Cooking, Road Safety, Water Activities)

  • Creative skills (Artist, Photographer, Entertainer)

  • Practical and home skills (Home Help, Chef, DIY)

  • Science and technology (Scientist, Digital Maker)

  • Community and global awareness (Environmental Conservation, Global Issues)

  • Sports, hobbies and personal interests (Athletics, Martial Arts, Hobbies)

How Cubs Earn Activity Badges

Most activity badges can be completed during weekly meetings, camps, or at home. Each badge has set requirements — some simple, some more challenging. Cubs can work on them:

  • Individually

  • In small groups

  • As part of pack activities

  • Or at home with guidance

Many badge activities link naturally with programme themes, hikes, creative evenings, community projects, or themed nights.

Staged Activity Badges

Cubs also work on Staged Activity Badges, which they share with Beavers, Scouts and Explorers. They are light blue, round, and worn on the left sleeve. Examples include Emergency Aid, Digital Citizen, Time on Water, Navigator and Nights Away. These allow progression from Stage 1 up to higher levels as skills improve

Activity Badges & The Chief Scout’s Silver Award

To earn the Chief Scout’s Silver Award (the top award for Cubs), young people must complete all seven Challenge Awards plus six Activity Badges of their choice.

This means Activity Badges play a key role in helping Cubs achieve their highest section award.
